Lyall Bay

Designed by ETCH Architecture for a couple who are avid surfers, this clever addition on a compact coastal site is both overtly contemporary and entirely sympathetic to its context.

This is an addition that delivers a hint of fun, and an ever changing manipulation of light, diffusing or enhancing depending on the time of day.

Large perforated aluminium screens on the exterior, create a bleeding of light from the east in this lovely dappled pattern

The main bathroom employs large-format stone tiles. A large skylight has been installed as a focal point to the bathroom providing light and space. A mirrored wall behind the vanity provides a further sense of spaciousness.

Entrance Way

The main entrance way to the house is now at the intersection between old and new. Board formed in-situ concrete walls, lead you upstairs to a light filled space lined intricately with birch plywood. The views from this house stretch out to the south, overlooking the Lyall Bay surf club.
